Help & how-to
Guides and answers for getting the most out of SellCrate.
๐ Step-by-step guides
How to run the program (a repricing run)
- Go to your Dashboard.
- Pick one:
- ๐ Preview (no changes). Runs the full analysis and shows you exactly what would change, but submits nothing to Amazon. Always start here.
- โถ Run Now. Does the same, but actually updates your prices on Amazon.
- Watch the activity log that appears. It requests your stranded report, waits for Amazon to build it, parses it, then analyzes each item (comps + fees). Timestamps are in your local time.
- When it finishes, the results appear right on the dashboard. A table of price changes (with SKU and ASIN you can click to copy), plus counts of candidates, updates, and items flagged for removal.
- If you Previewed and you like what you see, click โถ Submit as a real run to make those changes live. (You can also open the full detail page first.)
- Real runs also email you a summary of everything that changed.
- That's the manual path. Once you're comfortable, you don't need to do anything. It runs automatically every day at the time set in Settings.
How to configure your Settings
Open
Settings from the top nav. There's a
Save settings button at the top and bottom. Click either after making changes. Each field has an
โ icon; hover it for a plain-English explanation. Here's each one:
- Daily run time (ET). What time each day the tool auto-runs, US Eastern, 24-hour (e.g.
03:00 = 3 AM). Overnight is best so changes are live before the day's shoppers.
- Minimum profit after fees ($), your main lever. The least profit per unit you'll accept after Amazon's FBA + referral fees. If an item can't clear this, it's flagged for removal instead of repriced into a loss.
- Flat % cut when no sales comp. When there's no reliable sales comp, the tool nudges the price by this fixed % instead (
0.05 = 5%).
- Minimum drop to accept a comp. A comp only counts if it's at least this much below your current price. Stops pointless tiny changes.
- Rank-drop threshold. How big a sales-rank jump counts as a confirmed sale. Leave this at 0.30. It's tuned.
- Absolute price floor ($). A hard minimum the tool will never price below. A safety net; most people leave it low and rely on minimum profit above.
- Return address. Used only when you set a removal to "Return." Fill it in once so it's ready.
- Pause daily automation. Check this to keep your subscription but stop the scheduled runs (you can still run manually). Great for Q4 or manual control.
- Hit Save settings. Done.
How to use the removal system
When a run flags items for removal (dead stock, or anything that can't clear your minimum profit after fees), here's how to act on them.
Nothing is ever removed automatically. You're always in control.
- After a run, open that run's detail page (click "review & download the removal file" in the dashboard results, or open it from Run History).
- Scroll to the red โ Removal Order section. It lists every flagged item (FNSKU, SKU, title, condition, price, quantity, reason).
- Set a default disposition at the top, Return (ship back to you) or Disposal (Amazon destroys). You can also click any single row's disposition to flip just that one.
- Select the items you want to remove using the checkboxes (or Select All). A counter shows "X / 50 selected."
- Need to change a quantity? Click the Qty cell and type a new number.
- If any selected item is set to Return, fill in the return address box that appears (it pre-fills from your Settings).
- Amazon's limit is 50 items per removal order. The counter turns red if you go over; just deselect a few.
- Click Download CSV. The tool generates Amazon's removal file(s). One file per disposition (a Return file and/or a Disposal file), in Amazon's exact upload format.
- It also opens Seller Central โ Removal Orders โ Upload a File in a new tab. Upload each downloaded file there.
- Amazon processes the removal. You did the review and the upload. The tool just did the tedious file-building.
Setup
How do I connect my Amazon account?
After you subscribe, hit Connect Amazon. You'll be sent to Amazon's own consent
screen, where you approve access. Amazon sends you right back, connected. You never give us your Amazon
password. Amazon handles the login and just hands us a secure token.
What is the optional sales-data key?
Optional. SellCrate can use a third-party sales-data service to price against
real confirmed-sale prices rather than a flat percentage. If you already subscribe to such a
service, paste its API key in Connections and the tool will use it. If you don't, SellCrate falls back
to a flat % cut and still works fine. Any third-party key is billed by that provider, separately from
us, and you supply it yourself.
Can I change which Amazon account is connected?
No. For security, one subscription is permanently locked to one Amazon Seller ID the
first time you connect. This stops people from rotating one subscription across multiple stores. If your
connection ever breaks, you can reconnect the same account (just not a different one).
How the pricing works
How does it decide the new price?
For a high-price error, it looks for the best confirmed sale price that's
meaningfully below your current price, and moves you there. The highest price that actually sells. For a
low-price error, it nudges you up to the most conservative price still above your too-low one. No sales data?
It applies your flat % cut instead. Every proposed price is checked against Amazon's fees so you don't sell
at a loss (see below).
What's "minimum profit after fees"?
The most important setting. Before repricing, the tool estimates Amazon's FBA + referral
fees for the item and calculates your profit per unit after those fees. If it can't clear at least
your minimum, it doesn't reprice it into a loss. It flags it for removal instead. Set this to the
least profit that's worth your time per unit.
What's Preview vs Run Now?
Preview does the full analysis and shows you exactly what would change, but submits nothing to Amazon. Run Now does the same and actually updates your prices. New? Always
Preview first to see the tool's logic before trusting it live.
Settings
What time does it run?
Whatever you set in Settings, in US Eastern Time. Overnight (like 3 AM) is usually best so
changes are live before the day's shoppers. You can also run manually any time.
Can I pause it without cancelling?
Yes. Settings has a Pause daily automation toggle. It keeps your subscription active
but stops the scheduled runs (handy for Q4 or when you want manual control). Manual runs still work while
paused.
Should I change the rank-drop threshold?
Probably not. 0.30 (a 30% sales-rank jump = a confirmed sale) is well-tuned for reliable
detection. Leave it unless you have a specific reason.
Removal orders
Does it remove my inventory automatically?
Never. Removals always require your manual review. The tool flags dead or
unprofitable stock and generates a ready-to-upload removal file, but you review it and upload it to
Seller Central yourself. Nothing is removed without you.
Why is an item flagged for removal instead of repriced?
Two reasons. (1) It can't clear your minimum profit โ repricing it would mean
selling at a loss after Amazon's fees, so it's flagged instead. (2) It's already at your absolute
price floor and still stranded โ there's no room left to cut, so repricing can't fix it. Both mean
the listing is effectively dead stock: it won't sell at a price that works for you. You'll see the
reason next to each flagged item. If you'd rather keep cutting on floor-stuck items, lower the
absolute price floor in Settings and they'll be repriced again on the next run.
How do I use the removal file?
On a run's detail page, review the flagged items, pick dispositions (return or dispose),
adjust quantities, and hit Download. Then upload the file(s) at Seller Central โ Removal Orders โ Upload a
File. Max 50 items per order (Amazon's limit).
Billing
How do I cancel or update my card?
Everything's self-serve. Go to Settings โ Open billing portal to update your card,
view invoices, or cancel. No emails, no "contact us to cancel" nonsense. If you cancel, you keep access
through the period you've already paid for.
Data
Is my data safe?
Yes. Your Amazon token and any optional third-party API key are
encrypted at rest, the encryption key is
stored separately from the database, and every account's data is fully isolated. No other customer can
see it. We never store your Amazon password (Amazon handles login). Full details in the
Privacy Policy.
Referrals, tools & account
How do referrals work?
Share your link or code from the Referrals tab. When someone signs up through it and
pays, you earn 20% of what they pay every month they stay subscribed ($2/mo on a $10 plan). Earnings
build a balance you can cash out (min $1) via Venmo, CashApp, or PayPal. Free/test accounts can share, but
only paying subscribers earn.
Can I make my own referral code?
Yes โ on the Referrals tab, set a custom code (3โ20 letters/numbers, must be unique). Change
it any time; everyone you've already referred stays credited to you.
How do I get paid for referrals?
On the Referrals tab, once your balance is at least $1, click Request payout and enter
your Venmo, CashApp, or PayPal tag. We send it over, usually within a few days.
What is MaxXRemove?
A free Chrome extension (grab it on the Tools tab) that auto-fills the quantity fields
on Amazon's removal-order pages, so clearing dead stock takes seconds instead of hundreds of clicks. It needs
no Amazon connection and no permissions โ it just runs in your browser on pages you're already on. It's
the perfect partner to Stranded Fixer, which flags what to remove.
What does "value back to market" mean on my dashboard?
The total value of previously-stranded inventory that SellCrate repriced and that then
cleared your stranded report โ i.e. went back on the market and is sellable again. Items you removed
aren't counted. It grows as items resolve over successive runs.
How do I change my account email?
Settings โ Account email. Enter the new email and confirm your password. It updates
your login and where run summaries + billing receipts go.
Troubleshooting
My run failed / says "reconnect Amazon."
That means your Amazon authorization was revoked or expired (usually because it was
removed in Seller Central). Go to Connections and hit Reconnect Amazon. Same account, one click,
and automated runs resume.
I already run another repricing tool. Will they conflict?
If two tools both auto-reprice the same Amazon account, they can step on each other. Pick
one to run automation, and use the other manually (or pause it). Preview mode never conflicts, since it
changes nothing.
Nothing changed on my last run.
Totally normal. It means nothing on your stranded report needed fixing that day, or no
items met your thresholds. The daily email tells you exactly what happened.
I submitted changes but the price on Amazon hasn't moved yet.
Amazon doesn't apply price changes instantly. Most go live within minutes, but
book and media listings routinely take several hours to update on their end. A change that shows
as submitted will go through, so don't assume it failed if the live price hasn't caught up yet.
If you re-check hours later and it still hasn't moved, then it's worth looking into.
Why is an item still stranded after a run?
Not everything clears on the first pass, and that's by design. When an item has no reliable
sales comp, SellCrate uses a flat % cut and steps the price down a little each run. It keeps
stepping down on subsequent runs until the price finally clears Amazon's threshold and the listing unstrands,
or it reaches your minimum-profit floor (at which point it's flagged for removal instead of chasing the
price to the bottom). Re-running over a few days is what clears the stubborn ones.
